Daniil Medvedev Outlasts Felix Auger-Aliassime To Reach Dubai Open Final

 

Daniil Medvedev is in his second ATP Tour final of the season in Abu Dhabi, where he defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach the final of the Dubai Tennis Championship. 

The Russian had a cruise through the semifinal, eliminating Auger-Aliassime in straight sets by 6-4, 6-2 in nearly an hour and a half. The victory extended the world's 11th-ranked player's winning streak against Auger-Aliassime to 8:2 in head-to-head encounters. 

The Canadian gave the first set his best shots until the ninth game when Medvedev broke to claim the set point. It was unlike Auger-Aliassime in the second set as Medvedev established his dominance, breaking for the second time at 2-1 and cruising on to break for the third time, claiming the match point. 

Medvedev, the Dubai Open 2023 champion, would meet Tallon Griekspoor in the final. The Netherlands player defeated Russia's Andrey Rublev in straight sets by 7-5, 7-6(6) in the semi-final.
