Chelsea Drop Points In Clash With Burnley At Stamford Bridge
Chelsea's Premier League title hopes were dealt a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley at Stamford Bridge, following an injury-time goal.
They needed the maximum points to keep tabs on their rivals ahead of them in the table. Having to draw back-to-back robbed them of the necessary points to stay in the title race after they drew in their previous Premier League game against Leeds United by 2-2 at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues took an early lead through João Pedro's fourth-minute strike, but a Zian Flemming header in stoppage time cancelled out the advantage. The Blues had plenty of scoring chances, but Dubravka was to Burnley's rescue.
Despite sharing points with Burnley, they remained in the top four with 45 points. They have won three of their previous five Premier League games, and Pedro has scored a goal in four out of the five previous games.
Overview
Burnley held strongly, despite having to come from behind to force a draw. Wesley Fofana's dismissal was a setback for Chelsea, and Burnley seized the opportunity to secure a point from the match.
However, Chelsea had multiple chances to put the game to bed. Palmer had a lofty scoring opportunity inside the box and wasted it to Joe Worrall's block. Earlier, he broke through the centre on a counterattack but forced a save from Martin Dubravka. Notwithstanding the pressure from Chelsea, Burnley maintained composure until injury time.
