Carlos Alcaraz Wins Maiden Qatar Open Title
Carlos Alcaraz is the winner of the Qatar Open, winning back-to-back his first two ATP Tour titles this season.
The Spaniard defeated Arthur Fils in straight sets by 6-2, 6-1 in a 50-minute thriller on Saturday, improving his match-winning streak to 12-0. Though the Frenchman was entertaining in the final, he was no match for Alcaraz. The top seed dominated well enough to win five break points.
Fils was making his maiden final appearance in a major singles tournament. He reached his career milestone at the Japan Open in 2024, where he won his first title on hard court and his third career title.
"After every tournament, we set new goals," said Alcaraz in a post-match interview. "I'm really happy and proud about everything I've done with my team, on and off the court. So I feel like the job is finished right now."
It was his first-ever title in Doha. Earlier this month, he won his first Australian Open title, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. Since the last edition of the ATP World Tour Finals, he has appeared in three consecutive finals, losing only at the season-ending tournament. With the victory in Doha, he extended his ATP major singles finals appearance to 34.
