Bodo/Glimt Eliminate Inter Milan In Two-Legged UEFA Champions League Playoff
Bodo/Glimt secured a historic victory over Inter Milan by eliminating the Italians side in the UEFA Champions League playoffs, and became the first Norwegian side to reach the Last 16 by winning a two-legged knockout tie.
Inter had lost the first-leg playoff to the Norwegian side by 3-1, leaving them with an uphill task to qualify. They started determined, making efforts to break Bodo/Glimt's resolve in the first half. Eventually, a disastrous backpass gave away an opening goal to Bodo/Glimt, who went on to win.
Early into the second half, Jen Hauge seized a floppy defensive error between Piotr Zielinski and Manuel Akanji and pounced on Yann Sommer to guide home a shot from inside the box. The Norwegians doubled the lead as Hauhe's cross arrived rightly for Hakon Evjen, who finished off the scoring opportunity.
Midway through the half, Alessandro Bastoni tapped in a loose ball following a rowdy moment inside the box. The goal was contested, but the VAR ruled the ball had gone past the goal line.
Inter, the runners-up from the last edition, lost in both legs of the playoff in their first-ever clashes with Bodo/Glimt. The Norwegians are now through to the Round of 16.
