Arsenal Thrash Wigan To Reach Next Round of FA Cup
Arsenal are through to the next round of the FA Cup, after defeating Wigan Athletic by 4-0 at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners seized the first half to establish their dominance with four goals, amongst which was Jack Hunt's own goal. Arsenal had a disappointing game in their previous Premier League clash against Brentford, which was a setback in their pursuit of the title race.
However, they launched an early strike against Wigan through Noni Madueke, who put the side in the lead. In the 11th minute, the forward reacted swiftly to Eberech Eze's through pass and guided a right-footed shot into the right corner of the post.
Gabriel Martinelli doubled the lead eight minutes later, latching onto Eze's through pass and finishing off the scoring opportunity. Bukayo Saka's cutback led to Hunt's own-goal in a failed effort to clear the ball inside the six-yard box.
Shortly after Hunt's own goal, Gabriel Jesus sealed the victory with a lob over Sam Tickle. Ben White lobbed a cross over the centre to Jesus, who, in turn, lobbed the ball over on-rushing Tickle.
Wigan had a porous midfield, and Arsenal capitalised on the situation. Arsenal left no stone unturned in the first half, establishing their dominance. Wigan were fired up in the second half, but a comeback was too late to secure.
