Victor Osinhem's Galatasaray Hold Atletico Madrid To Draw
Galatasaray forced Atletico Madrid to a standstill in their UEFA Champions League encounter, securing a 1-1 draw from an own-goal after an early goal from Giu;iano Simeone set them back.
The Spaniard took the lead quite early into the game, but there were not many chances they could create afterwards. Though they had better shots on target than their hosts, Ugurcan Cakir made a couple of brilliant saves that kept the Turkiye side in the game.
Atletico broke into the area following a defensive flop, allowing Rigerri's cross to find Simeone for a header that beat Cakir to the goal. The scores were leveled midway through the first half when Rolland Sallai's cross deflected into the net by Marcos Llorente.
The second half was squarely defended by both sides, and Galatasaray had the closest chance to snatch the victory when Victor Simhen's cross rightly arrived for Gabriel Sara, whose shot was saved by Jan Oblak.
With both sides sharing points from the draw, Atletico moved up to 13th in the Champions League group stage standings, while Galatasaray improved to 17th position.
Overview
Galatasaray stayed on through the length, despite the intense pressure, holding on to the point earned. Atletico were meticulous but maintained caution with Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane. Though the Turkiye side barely hit shots on target, their glarest chance to put the game to bed was wasted in the injury time.
The hosts committed more players to the defense than they would going on the attack. Each time Atletico advanced into the scoring range, there would be at least five players waiting to stop the advancement in the penalty area. Galatasaray was defensive and maintained composure.
