Supercopa de Espana: Real Madrid Progress To Final After Atletico Madrid Defeat
Real Madrid are through to the final of the Supercopa de España, with a 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrid at the King Abdullahi Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Compared to Madrid, Atletico did not get as many shots as their opponents, but they lost fairly to the much better side, even with similar formations deployed, 4-4-2. Madrid found goals early in both halves before pressure paid off with a goal.
Madrid set sail with Federico Valverde scoring the opening goal in the seventh minute. From 30 yards, he struck a free-kick goal-bound into a difficult angle of the right post. They doubled the lead soon after the interval as Valverde's cross from the centre half set Rodrygo for a counter and beat on-rushing Jan Oblak to the net.
Almost immediately, Alexander Sorloth pulled one goal back for Atletico. Simeone dribbled down the right wing and delivered a cross into the six-yard box for Sorloth to nod into the back of the net.
Madrid will face their arch-rivals, Barcelona, in the final at King Abdullahi Sports City Stadium on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

That proved to be costly. Sorloth's goal came off in sheer brilliance. Atletico built the pressure from the right, drawing out Real's before Simeone delivered the cross into the six-yard box, Tchouameni and Ascenio were widely spaced enough for Sorloth to get a header into the net.
