Raphael Leao's Goal Sends AC Milan To Top Table, Beat Cagliari
AC Milan maintained their Serie A title lead with a narrow 1-0 win over Cagliari, courtesy of a stunning strike from Rafael Leão, midway through the game.
It was a closely contested match from the first half until Leao broke the deadlock to give Milan their year-opening game victory. Milan have maintained an unbeaten run through the past three seasons, winning their first game in the New Year.
After a hard-fought first half, Cagliari's defense was loose, paving the way for Milan to crack a spot. Leao wasted no time, reacting quickly to Adrien Rabiot's cross, smashing the ball into the top left corner.
Cagliari pushed hard for an equalizer, but Milan's defense held firm, and goalkeeper Mike Maignan was rarely troubled. Christian Pulisic and Lucas Modric repeatedly troubled the hosts' defense in search of Milan's second goal.
Milan had a great day, particularly for Pulisic, who played a significant role in the closing stages. Leao was substituted midway through the second half, with a bolstered attacking frontline.
