FC Porto Storm Back to Beat Rangers
FC Porto staged an impressive comeback to defeat Rangers 3-1 at the Estádio do Dragão, securing a vital win in their European campaign.
Rangers' early pressure paid off in the 6th minute as Gassama's header found the back of the net. However, Porto soon hit their stride, and Rodrigo Mora's equalizer in the 27th minute marked the beginning of a resurgence. Mora inspired the build-up leading to the equaliser. He darted into space from the centre field, did a one-two touch with a teammate, and finished off inside the box.
The hosts continued to push, and Francisco Moura's goal in the 36th minute gave Porto the lead. Just four minutes later, an own goal by Emmanuel Fernandez extended Porto's advantage, and the half ended 3-1 in their favor.
Rodrigo Mora instigated the fast break from the centre field and finished off. Ranger let it loose, allowing the Portuguese to overrun their defense. Moore's goal was avoidable, but Emmanuel Fernandez impeded Jack Butland's reach for the ball.
Rangers bowed out of the UEFA Europa League campaign with a humiliating loss. They finished out of the play-off zone in 32nd position with four points. Having finished fifth with 17 points, Porto are through to the knockout stages.
