Paris St-Germain Win Trophée des Champions On Penalties
Paris Saint-Germain are the French Super Cup for the 14th time, claiming the trophy on penalties after narrowly securing a 2-2 draw against Marseille, following an injury-time goal from Goncalo Ramos.
The Parisians have maintained consistency in the competition, which they dominated by 11 of the last 12 editions. They also won both Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France last season and now complete a domestic trilogy with this competition hosted in Kuwait for the first time.
Ousmane Dembele set the side ahead by scoring the opening goal early in the first period. Unfortunately, two own goals from Mason Greenwood and Willian Pacho before Ramos rescued the side back into the game in the 90th+5 minute.
Marseille were unable to find the winning goal in extra time and missed two of their penalties in the shootouts, while PSG scored all four attempts. Goalkeeper Lucas Chavelier saved Hamed Traore and Matt O'Riley's penalties..
Earlier in the match, Chavelier had saved a couple of goal-scoring chances from Marseille. Otherwise, the final would have gone Marseille's way. Meanwhile, in their previous encounter earlier this season in the Ligue 1. PSG were beaten 1-0 by Marseille.
