Novak Djokovic Reaches New Milestone At Australian Open
Novak Djokovic claimed his 100th match win in the Australian Open, winning the opening match against Pedro Martinez in a three-set blockbuster faceoff in Melbourne.
The Serbian player wasted no time eliminating Martinez in three sets by 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. He was dominant throughout the match, converting five break points against Martinez. Djokovic, who has not won a Grand Slam title in two seasons, last won his Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2021.
Currently, he leads in Melbourne with the most titles (10), having won his last one in 2024. Participating in the tournament brings his total appearance in a Gram Slam to 81, which equals the record set by Roger Federer as one of the three players with the most Grand Slam appearances.
In a separate match, debutant Arthur Gea eliminated veteran Grand Slam player Jiri Lehecka in three sets by 7-5, 7-6(1), 7-5, in his maiden Australian Open appearance. Meanwhile, he saved three break points advantages while winning five against the world no. 17.
