AFCON 2025: Nigeria Beat Mozambique To Qualify For Quarter-finals

Nigeria have progressed to the quarterfinals of the AFCON Cup, after an emphatic 4-0 victory against Mozambique, with Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman leading the scoresheet.

Mozambique won their first AFCON Cup game against Angola and qualified for the round of 16. They had never before reached the knockout stages of the competition, and they did so by finishing third in Group E. They have never won a game in all competitions against Nigeria.

The Super Eagles opened the score sheet with two goals in the first half from Lookman and Osimhen. The Galatasaray striker, Osimhen, scored the third goal within two minutes of the first half, and Akor Adams put the match to bed with the fourth goal in the 75th minute.

Nigeria maintained its unbeaten run in the competition in its bid for a fourth AFCON title. They last won the trophy in 2013. The Super Eagles reached the final of the 2023 AFCON Cup, losing to the host nation, the Ivory Coast

Overview

Nigeria dominated the game, despite Mozambique playing decently. They barely had goalscoring chances to scare the Nigerian 18-yard box. Compared to the Super Eagles, Mozambique had no attempt at the target and had fair possession of the game.
