Manchester City Thrash Wolves To Regain Winning Form
Manchester City regained its winning way with a 2-0 defeat of Wolverhampton Wanderers at Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola had gone winless back-to-back, setting his team back by seven points behind Arsenal. They lost the Manchester derby against United at Old Trafford and again to Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League.
Wolves conceded the first goal early in the game. Matheus Nunez broke past the centre-left defense and played in Omar Marmoush, who steered the ball into the net. The second goal followed in the added minutes to the first half.
The opponents left it loose in the centre field, allowing a through pass to Bernando Silva, who, in turn, played in Antoine Semenyo. The Ghanaian striker darted past the defense and finished off.
Wolves remained at the bottom of the Premier League table with eight points and have only won one of their previous five games. The City moved up to second place with four points behind the leaders, Arsenal.
Overview
Manchester City appeared better than they were in their previous games. They seized the slight advantages they found to pull off two goals. Wolves were coordinated, leaving no space that could mean danger. However, City barrelled through the centre, with Wolves' defenders giving between them, and Semenyo capitalised on that, sending the side ahead with the second goal.
Wolves maintained the scoreline through the second half and were unable to find good scoring chances. Their best chance was from Mosquera, whose effort clipped the bar. To keep the scoreline, Guardiola maintained the offensive outlook by bringing in Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku.
