Enzo Fernandez's Stoppage Time Goal Levels Terms For Chelsea Against Manchester City

Manchester City lost a much-needed victory in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea,  setting them back in their quest for the Premier League top spot.

For the second game in a row, the Citizens have remained winless, playing draw back-to-back against Sunderland and now, Chelsea. They were poised for the victory before Enzo Fernandez turned the tide in the injury time. The goal was a reward for the Blues' determination to avoid losing at Etihad

Tijjani Reijnders seized an individual effort to break the deadlock before halftime. Rayan Cherki's through pass to Erling Haaland ricocheted off to his reach. He rounded out Benoit Badiashille and rifled the ball into the top corner.

Late into injury time, Malo Gusto darted down the right and crossed the ball into the box. It drifted past the defenders and Liam Delap to get to Fernandez for a tap-in from close range.

Despite the draw, City reclaimed the second place from Aston Villa on equal points (42). Though an impressive outcome for Chelsea, the draw extended their winless run to four consecutive games.

Overview

It was a closely contested match, full of intrigues and near misses. Haaland was unlucky with goals. His closest effort struck the inside of the left post and bounced off to safety. However, Chelsea did not see Reijnders coming. Losing possessions carelessly in the midfield set off the buildup to those moments.

Joao Pedro was unable to make a strong impact of the game, and he was replaced by Delap. The striker caused a few scares for the hosts before they scored the equaliser. The Citizens were effective and meticulous with their move, but they did not have a victory to show for it.
