Brisbane International: Daniil Medvedev Wins Final, Claims Season's First Title

Daniil Medvedev is the Brisbane International champion for his 22nd ATP tour-level title, defeating an American opponent, Brandon Nakashima, in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(1) in the final.

Today the conditions were a little heavier," said Medvedev in a post-match interview. "I think it was the same for him, because he usually gets more free points on serve."

The former world number one conceded only one break point advantage to Natashima in the second set at 5-4, leading to the tie-break. In the 2019 edition, he finished as a runner-up, losing in the final to Kei Nishikori in three sets.

For the past two seasons, major singles titles have eluded Medvedev. Last season, he performed poorly at the Roland Garros Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open, where he was eliminated in the first round of each event. However, he won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2021; his only Grand Slam title, and has since not won any.
