Brighton Hold Manchester City To Draw
Brighton secured a 1-1 draw at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, with a delightful performance from Kaoru Mitima, who rescued a point for the visiting side.
City missed out on claiming another crucial match, for the maximum points needed to keep tabs on Arsenal, who lead the Premier League table. They drew the previous two games against Sunderland and Chelsea, which set them back in the race for the Premier League top spot.
Jeremy Doku drew a penalty that put City ahead in the 41st minute. Erling Haaland converted the spot kick, and City took the lead. Kabiru Mitoma restored Brighton to level terms midway through the second half.
The Seagulls broke loose from the right wing, dazzling past City's defensive midfield. Yasin Ayari played in Mitoma, who dashed across the edge of the box and steered a shot home down the right corner of the post.
Georginio wasted the Seagull's best chance in front of the goal in the first half, before Mitom's brilliant strike. In the past five away Premier League games, Brighton have drawn three and lost two.
Overview
Doku's brilliant effort can be credited for the penalty. Brighton had clamped down on Bernardo Silva on the right flank, but Doku maintained the penetration on his side. Pascal's challenge on the winger was late, resulting in him being penalised. Brighton had fair possession of the game but lacked the aggression at the front.
Brighton were ambitious with the changes they made. They introduced two strikers, Danny Welbeck and Tom Watson, to bolster the frontline in the closing stages. Georginio had a fair share of goalscoring chances but did not convert any, despite those being glaring chances.
