Australian Open: Jannik, Djokovic Dominate Opponents, Progress to Third Round

As the Australian Open rolls on, players like Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic continue to establish their dominance by eliminating opponents in straight sets in the second round.

Djokovic is making his 81st appearance in a Grand Slam, in his quest for his first Grand Slam title since his last at the US Open in 2023. He routed Francesco Maestrelli in three sets by 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, having 16 break-point advantages, but only converted six.

Having won the match, he extended his winning streak in Melbourne to a record 101 victories. Last year, he walked over his semi-final match against Alexander Zverev due to an injury scare, despite being the defending champion. Eventually, Jannik Sinner won the final, denying the German of his maiden Australian Open title.

In a separate match, the defending champion, Jannik, won his second-round match against n straight sets by 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. In the opening round, his opponent, Hugo Daston, walked off the court, citing an injury from a fall.

The Frenchman fell on his hand while reacting to a drop shot. He landed on his hand, impacting his wrist. Daston later retired from the match after the second set.
