Arsenal Come From Behind To Beat Bournemouth At Home
Arsenal produced a stunning comeback to beat Bournemouth 3-2, with Declan Rice scoring a brace and Gabriel Magalhães also finding the net for the Gunners.
The result moves Arsenal up the Premier League table, while Bournemouth's chances of survival take a hit. Manchester City were unable to win their previous game against Sunderland, which gave Arsenal an advantage to extend their lead by seven points as the Citizens dropped to third behind Aston Villa.
Bournemouth got down to business as soon as possible, taking the lead through Evanilson's clinical finish in the 10th minute. The Cherries continued to press, and Antoine Semenyo's yellow card for a foul on Piero Hincapié didn't deter them. Arsenal equalized just before the break, with Magalhães heading home from a set piece in the 16th minute.
It was a different story after the interval, with Arsenal taking control and Rice scoring two stunning goals to put them 3-1 up. Bournemouth refused to give up, and Junior Kroupi's late strike made for a nervy finale. But Arsenal held on, with David Raya making crucial saves to secure the win.
Bournemouth, on the other hand, will be disappointed to have thrown away a lead. They created chances and had periods of control, but ultimately paid the price for their mistakes. They have been winless in the past 11 Premier League games.
Overview
Semenyo was one prominent player for Bournemouth. Arsenal maintained a strong hold on the game, exploiting the wings through Gabriel Martinelli on the right. Overall, the Gunners had the better share of the first period.
What made the difference in the second period was the adjustments made to their techniques. It was effective, and Arsenal got the better of that with two goals from Declan Rice. Mikel Arteta bolstered the frontline with Gabriel Jesus and Saka, paying off with Rice's second goal. Initially, Arsenal were using long throws to bypass the Cherries' midfield. However, by replacing the attacking forwards, they returned to the short passes.
Bournemouth replaced tired legs, like Evanilson and Kluivert, and added one more striker by bringing in Eli Junior Kroupi, Enes Unai, and Lewis Cook. That paid off with their second goal. In response, Arteta replaced Odegaard with Merino to reinforce the centre forward position. Arsenal now sustained pressure on their opponents.
