AFCON 2025: Victor Osimhen Threatens To Abandon Super Eagles

Victor Osimhen will not continue his participation with the Super Eagles in the AFCON Cup in Morocco, and he will return to his club, Galatasaray, following an altercation between him and Ademola Lookman in the Round of 16

The clash broke out between Osimhen and Ademola Lookman midway through Nigeria's 4-0 victory against Mozambique. The striker was seen wagging a finger at Lookman and was heard saying to his teammate, "It's a team game."

The cause of the dispute was unknown. However, Lookman was involved in Osimhen's goal after he scored the opening goal. The referee resolved the situation, and Osimhen was later substituted.

"Nothing happened," said Lookman during an interview after the match. "It's just football. It's always football. He is my brother."

It was later learned that Osimhen wanted out of the national team, and he will be returning to Turkey, despite efforts by the President of the Nigeria Football Association, Ibrahim Gusau, to appease him.

Osimhen is a one-time AFCON Men's Player of the Year and has scored three goals in this tournament. He is currently Nigeria's all-time biggest goalscorer (34) after late Super Eagles legend, Rashidi Yekini (37).
