Morgan Rogers Shines As Aston Villa Thrash Manchester United

 

Morgan Rogers was spectacular, leading Aston Villa to a showdown against Manchester United and winning 2-1 to consolidate their position in the top four with three points behind the leaders, Arsenal. 

United have been unbeaten in their previous five away Premier League games. They drew against Bournemouth in an intriguing 4-4 showdown at Vitality Stadium. Villa were unable to beat United in their previous five meetings. Eventually, snapped the drought on their turf. 

During the stoppages for the halftime, Rogers reacted to a lob pass from. John McGinn darted down the left and, while challenged by Yoro, curled a shot from the edge of the box to the top corner of the post. United responded quickly in the added minutes and restored level terms. 

Jarrod Bowen carelessly lost possession in a challenge with Patrick Dorgu, who flicked the ball over to Matheus Cunha. The striker kept his composure and curled the ball into the far left corner of the goal. Soon after the interval, Morgan restored the lead to Villa, curling a loose ball inside the box into the back of the net. 

United had a couple of goal attempts in the stoppages, amongst which were Mason Mount's free-kick and Dorgu's cross for Cunha's header. Villa ended the winning drought against United after five winless meetings. They remain third in the Premier League table with 36 points. 

Overview 

The game picked up pace late into the first half as both sides took advantage of moments of defensive lapses. In the buildup to Rogers' stunning goal, Villa had committed more players in the box, making the defense already vulnerable, which allowed his composure to attempt the goal-bound shot. However, Cunha's goal came off a defensive error. The defender underestimated Dorgu, and it was costly. 

Manchester United were impressive as Villa retained the lead with the second goal from Roger. The game was largely in Villa's hands, as United played without players like Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo. Players like Mason Mount and Dorgu made an impression on the game, despite the loss.
