Manchester City Win As Real Madrid Lost At Bernabeu

 

Manchester City claimed an interesting 2-1 victory against Real Madrid at Bernabeu Stadium, as the Citizens maintained their winning form through four games in all competitions.  

Alonso is going to come under heavy criticism for his team's two consecutive losses, both in the Champions League and in La Liga. Though there was an attacking glitch due to Kylian Mbappe's absence. Nevertheless, at home for the second time is a big smear. 

Last season, Real Madrid knocked City out of the Champions League in the play-off and went on to be eliminated in the quarterfinals by Arsenal. Much is expected of both sides, particularly Madrid, which desperately needed at least a point after losing to Celta Vigo in the domestic league. 

Real Madrid took the lead midway through the first half as Jude Bellingham's cross set Rodrygo up to attack. The Brazilian darted into the box and struck the ball down the bottom right to beat Donnarumma. 

City responded to the deficit 10 minutes later as Nico O'Reilly tapped in a rebound following a corner. Minutes before the interval, Erling Haaland converted a penalty awarded against Real, giving City the lead before halftime. 

It was a disappointing loss for the Spaniards, who are now winless in two games, which set them back both in the UEFA Champions League and in the Spanish La Liga.

Overview 

Rodrygo had shown versatility on the wing before breaking in, sealing the opening goal with an individual effort. While City kept the pace slow and tactical, Real kept to their traditional high-pace football, leading to the Brazilian breaking loose on the right wing. 

Earlier, Real's call for a penalty for a foul on Vinicius was ruled. Amidst the pressure, City were meticulous in their approach, recovering the deficit and taking the lead from Halland's effort. Having to trail in the first half was disappointing for the Spaniards. 

O'Reilly was effective for City in the defense, and Doku was a trouble for the opponents, darting down the left. However, Rodrygo had an impressive game. His efforts made Vinicius' role quite convenient, despite reeling.
