Manchester City Comfortably Thrash Crystal Palace As Erling Haaland Nets Brace, Sets New Record

Manchester City claimed a decisive 3-0 victory over a hard-fighting Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, reducing the gap with the Premier League table leaders, Arsenal

Palace have been in incredible form, making the Premier League front row in fifth place. Yet they did not stand a chance against City, who took them down as Erling Haaland scored his 100th goal, becoming the fastest player to reach the feat on his 111th Premier League appearance.

City took the lead as Matheus Nunues' cross rocketed toward Haaland for a glance header that beat Dean Genderson to the back of the net. Phil Foden scored the second goal in the second half. Rayan Cherki dazzled past three opponents before passing the ball to Foden, who struck a 20-yard shot down the bottom left of the goal.

However, the winning goal came off a penalty drawn against Henderson for dropping Savinho inside the box. Haaland converted the spot-kick for his 101st Premier League goal. Manchester City now trail the Premier League summit by two points, extending their winning streak to five consecutive games in all competitions.

Overvew

It was a decisive victory for City, despite Palac's efforts to resist losing, even by a wide margin. Defense-wise, Palace did well after conceding the deficit until Cherki cracked the fence and set off Foden, whose individual effort gave the side a better advantage.

Palace had a couple of goal-scoring moments. Yeremy Pino's goal attempt could have been better if he played in on-rushing Mateta. In another similar event, Adam Wharton charged into the box and attempted a shot, which he could have played in Ismaila Sarr, who was in a better space to finish off the counterattack.
