Evan Ferguson Leads As Roma Thrash Celtic

AS Roma neatly took down Celtic Glasgow on their visit to Celtic Park in the UEFA Europa League game, winning 3-0 as Liam Scales' own goal set the sail for the Italians.

Scales' own goal in the early stages ruined Celtic's chance. The two goal from Evan Ferguson quickly established their dominance, even as the Scots made efforts. The margin could have widened had the referee upheld Bailey's goal. Instead, it was ruled out for a foul in the centre, leading to the fast break.

The defender headed home Glanluca Mancini's corner in the 6th minute, giving Roma the lead. The Italians doubled the lead when Matias Soule led a fast break, playing in Zeki Celik, whose cross Fergusn side-footed into the net.

Moments after Arne Engels missed a penalty, Roma put the game to bed in the 45th+3 minute from Ferguson's effort. The penalty was Celtiv's nearest chance to get back into the game, but the spot kick struck the frame and bounced into safety.

Roma regained winning form after two consecutive losses in the domestic league. They won their previous game in the competition against Rangers by 2-0, giving them a clean sheet against both teams from the Scottish Premiership

Overview

Perhaps a consequence of Scales' own goal, Celtic were no match for the Italians. leaving them with a defeat that could have been bigger. Roma were a much-experienced side in the competition, banking on top strikers like Dybala and Ferguson. The Scottish side were enterprising and made good passes, but lacked the goal-scoring acumen that Roma had.

Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor had a couple of spectacular moments that could have pulled one back for the Scots. McGregor's was ruled out, and Hatate shot wide his attempt in front of the goal. Nevertheless, both players were impressive. Roma was just the better side. Leon Bailey's goal could have made it a fourth.
