AFCON 2025: Egypt Win Epic Match Against South Africa
Egypt secured a narrow 1-0 win over South Africa in a highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations second matchday clash.
South Africa had the better of the game, with possession and scoring opportunities, but that changed. A penalty was awarded against the Bafana Bafana side on the brink of halftime. On top of that, Mohamed Hany was red-carded in the added minutes to the first half, leaving the Egyptians with 10 men for the remainder of the game.
The penalty in the 45th minute after Khuliso Mudau brought down Omar Marmoush in the box. The Egyptian superstar, Mohamed Salah, converted the spot kick with ease, sending the South African goalkeeper the wrong way.
In the second half, South Africa pushed hard for an equalizer, but Egypt's defense held firm. The Bafana Bafana created several chances, including a header from Evidence Makgopa that sailed just wide of the post
