Union Saint-Gilloise Claim Victory At Galatasaray's Rams Park

Union Saint-Gilloise dealt a shocking blow to Galatasaray with a 1-0 loss at Rams Park, ending the side's unbeaten run through their previous three Champions League games.

The hosts had had an impressive run through the competition, with a clean 3-0 victory against Ajax before the international break. The game was the Super Lig side's first encounter with Saint-Gilloise.

Matthias Rasmussen set up the scoring moment. He cut back a pass to Zorgane inside the area, and the midfielder let a cross to Promise Akinpelu, who rifled home a right-footed shot.

Earlier, Galatasaray had a penalty ruled out, which should have put them ahead in the first half, a reward for the many chances they had. In the latter stages, losing Arda Unyay ruined the opportunity to regain level terms.

Union regained winning form after losing the previous three Champions League games. Their last victory was against PSV, whom they defeated by 3-1 in September. With the maximum points in the bag, the Belgians moved up to 22nd in the Champions League table.

Overview

Galatasaray, without Victor Osimhen, struggled with getting past Union. The team was effective but not on the frontline, as Icardi lost a couple of lofty chances before the opponent put the game to bed. The prospect of a late comeback was later ruined when Arda Unyay was red-carded.
