Oscar Piastri Dominates Sprint Race, Qualifying Session In Qatar
Oscar Piastri maintained his dominance of the Qatar Grand Prix, winning both the Sprint race and the qualifiers for the final. He was railed by his teammate, Lando Norris, in second, and Max Verstappen finished the qualifying in third.
It has been a McLaren weekend in Qatar. Piastri had shown himself to be quicker than Norris since the Sprint qualifying session. The McLaten duo scored points from the Sprint race, which Norris finished in third, putting pressure on Verstappen in his quest to remain in the F1 Championship title race.
Piastri delivered a resounding pace in Q3 to edge his teammate to the pole/ He was quicker by +0.108 seconds. It was a one-two podium finish for the pair, further enhancing their chances to claim the F1 driver's title for the team that last won it in 2008.
George Russell fell behind the trio in Q3 to finish in fourth, and his Mercedes teammate, Kimi Antonelli, followed in fifth. However, Charles Leclerc had a disappointing second run in Q3. The Ferrari driver spun over the curb and dropped out of the contest for the front row. He will start in P10.
Lewis Hamilton had another disappointing session. The Ferrari driver was eliminated in Q1 for the second time in a row. This weekend has been a struggle for the former F1 champion, who was also eliminated in the Sprint race qualifying in SQ1.
