Lando Norris Claims Pole In Las Vegas Grand Prix

Lando Norris closed in on a decisive race in his F1 career, after edging Max Verstappen to claim the pole in Las Vegas as the season draws to a close.

Unlike the practice session, Verstappen stepped up his pace for a provisional pole on his final run before he was beaten to the pole on Norris' second run by 0.323s. Carlos Sainz also showed his strong hand, dropping from provisional pole to P3.

It was a challenging qualifying session, considering the weather, which impacted some drivers, particularly Oscar Piastri. The Australian's chance for the front row was ruined on his second run, dropping him to P5.

Alex Albon and Oliver Bearman were impacted by the wet surface in Q1. The former ran into the wall, damaging his front wing, and Bearman skidded off the track into the wall. Both drivers were eliminated in the session alongside Lewis Hamilton, who finished at the bottom. The Ferrari driver's elimination was based on pace.

Having to start in pole position gives Norris an advantage to score the needed points to extend his F1 Championship title lead. Verstappen (Red Bull) will need to make at least a podium position in second to maintain the hope of defending the title.
