Kylian Mbappe Shines As Real Madrid Humble Hard-fighting Olympiacos In Seven-Goal Thriller

Real Madrid secured a 4-3 victory against Olympiacos, with a comeback in which Kylian Mbappe scored all four goals and Vinicius assisted in two.

In their last game before the international break, Real lost 1-0 to Liverpool. They regained winning form against Olympiacos, who stood their ground on their own turf, taking an early lead in the ninth minute. Real, however, had a plan up their sleeve. The Spaniards turned the game around, cementing their lead in the first half.

Olympiacos opened the scoresheet with an early goal from Chiquinho. The player did a one-two ball with Ayoub El-Kaabi before steering the ball into the net from outside the 18-yard box. Kylian Mbappe responded by scoring twice to put Real in the lead and completed a hat-trick as Camavinga's through ball set him up for a break into the box, smashing the ball to beat Tzolakis. All three goals came in within seven minutes.

The Greeks reduced the deficit as Mehdi Taremi scored the second goal for the side, and almost spontaneously, Real responded. Vincius darted into the box from the left wing, rounding out a defender and cutting back a pass to Mbappe, who poked the ball into the net. El-Kaabi scored the third goal for the side in the 81st minute, but they were unable to complete a comeback for a draw.

The victory lifted Real Madrid to fifth position in the Champions League table with 12 points. Meanwhile, Olympiacos dropped to near the bottom of the table in 33rd position.

Overview

Getting ahead, Olympiacos did with sheer brilliance. Real's defense was neatly beaten, and Chiquinho, who initiated the buildup, finished it off from 20 yards. It later turned out that Real would turn the tide, even putting the game to bed in the first half. Mbappe displayed brilliance, and the hosts' defense reeled under a hat-trick from the striker.

The Greeks stuck to their game plan and yet found the weak spot to punish Real's defense. They penetrated the right wing, and Hezze's cross was just right to set up a header. The goal was scored after Vinicius narrowly missed scoring a goal. However, the Brazilian forward made up for that by assisting with the fourth goal; Mbappe just needed to poke the ball into the net.
