Jannik Sinner Wins Maiden Paris Masters, Regains World Ranking Top Spot
Jannik Sinner has reclaimed the ATP world number one ranking after winning his maiden Rolex Paris Masters title in a fierce battle with Felix Auger-Aliassime on Sunday.
Auger-Aliassime lost to the second seed, who was making his maiden final appearance in the Paris Masters in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(4). It was both players' first meeting since their last in the semi-final of the US Open, which the Canadian player lost.
"It's huge; honestly," said Jannik in a post-match interview. "It was such an intense final here, and we both knew what was on the line."
Jannik broke for the only time in the first set and faced a resurgence from Auger-Aliassime in the decider. The latter saved a championship point for a tiebreak, but that was not enough as the former won. It was Jannik's third consecutive major men's singles victory against Auger-Aliassime this season.
It was the Italian's first Rolex Paris Masters title and his first Masters 1000 title of the year. He lost his previous final appearance at a Masters 1000 in Cincinnati to Carlos Alcaraz. Having won the Paris Masters, he now has 250 points more than Alcaraz to reclaim the PIF ATP ranking top spot from the Spaniard.
