Harvey Barnes Leads Newcastle To Victory Against Manchester City
Newcastle extend their winning streak at home against Manchester City with a 2-1 win at Goodison Park, as their opponents lost in their attempt to hunt down the Premier League summit.
Earlier this season, Newcastle on a worst start to a top-flight season under Eddie Howe. A return to home comforts should offer the side some inspiration after they were beaten 3-1 on the road by Brentford before the international break. In addition, Howe’s men have won five successive games at St. James’ Park in all competitions. They have now won six games in a row for the first time since December 2022.
In a thrilling second half, Harvey Barnes scored two goals that set the Magpies ahead. Meanwhile, Ruben Diaz sandwiched his goal between Barnes', who was involved in the build-ups to both of his goals.
The Magpies had a handful of chances to put the game to bed in the first half. Nick Woltemade had the first two chances, forcing a save from Donnarumma. Barnes assisted with Woltemade's second scoring opportunity, playing the latter for a one-on-one encounter with the goalkeeper.
City have earlier won four games in a row in all competitions before losing at Goodison Park. The Citizens' form in away league games this season is looking rather indifferent. Having to lose to Newcastle set them back in their pursuit of the Premier League top spot.
