Brian Brobbey's Stoppage Time Goal Ruins Arsenal Winning Streak At Sunderland

Sunderland fought hard and forced a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in a comeback that dealt a setback to the Gunners' lead of the Premier League.

The hosts had shown themselves to be relentless and capable of making surprises. Arsenal's comeback from a goal deficit in the second half was undone in the injury time. Gabriel was beaten to the ball twice in the six-yard box, and Arsenal conceded goals on those occasions.

Daniel Ballard set the pace for Sunderland. After receiving a pass from Nordi Mukiele inside the box, he darted his way past two defenders before slipping a left-footed shot past David Raya. Bukayo Saka nearly assisted with pulling the Gunners back into the game, but William Saliba struck wide his header pass in front of the net.

Arsenal restored level terms after the interval. Eberechi Eze played in Declan Rice in front of the box. He, in turn, played Bukayo Saka in on the right. The winger latched onto the six-yard box and blasted the ball into the net. Leandro Trossard doubled the goal for Arsenal 20 minutes later. While on the edge of the box, the winger curled an 18-yard volley into the top of the net.

Sunderland later regained level terms four minutes into the stoppages as Brian Brobbey latched onto a loose ball from a free-kick, getting an acrobatic kick on the ball while in a contest with Gabriel. Once again, Saka's cross almost restored Arsenal to the lead, but Roefs saved Calafiori's header, and the rebound shot was also blocked.

Overview

Arsenal played well from the start until Sunderland found a space from a build-up. Arsenal's defense was caught, and Ballard made the most of the chance. Saka made great contributions, making assists that almost pulled the side back.

Sunderland kept a close tap on both Saka and Trossard to close down their penetration through the wings. However, both players were the standouts for Arsenal, besides the goals. Also, Granit Xhaka was a standout for Sunderland, whose striker Brobbey was terrific at troubling Arsenal.
