Alexander Isak Ends Goal Drought As Liverpool Snap Winless Run With Win Over West Ham
Liverpool's unimpressive Premier League run has taken a new turn with a huge 2-0 victory against West Ham at the London Stadium.
With just one win in the first nine Premier League games, West Ham was trending towards one of their worst campaigns in recent memory. However, that changed for the better as the Hammers maintained their unbeaten run through the previous three games until Liverpool.
The Hammers may have let a two-goal lead slip to draw at Bournemouth last week (2-2), but it was a point well earned considering that they faced 28 shots and scored their only two attempts on target. Nevertheless, their game against Liverpool was different as Alexander Isak scored his first Premier League goal against them. They had held on well until the Swede broke the deadlock with a tap-in of Cody Gakpo's cutback.
The situation later got intense for the Hammers when Lucas Paqueta was sent off for a second yellow card offense in the closing minutes. Then, Gakpo doubled the lead for Liverpool in the injury time, steering home Gomez's cross from inside the box.
Liverpool continued to dig itself out of the hole after the midweek 4-1 humbling by PSV in the UEFA Champions League encounter. They lost their previous two Premier League matches against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest by a three-goal margin.
