Viktor Gyokeres Shines As Arsenal Neatly Rout Atletico Madrid

Atlético Madrid faced its toughest defeat, visiting Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League encounter, as Victor Gyokeres scored a brace in a 4-0 rout at Emirates Stadium

Premier League leaders Arsenal return to the UCL full of confidence after a third successive clean-sheet victory on Saturday, without facing a shot on target in their last two Premier League matches.

Gabriel broke the deadlock for Arsenal in the second half, with a glancing header to Declan Rice's cross, which was followed by the second goal from Gabriel Martinelli's curly shot inside the 18-yard box.

Hence, Atletico became fatigued. Arsenal pounced harder on the Spaniards and penetrated deeper into their half, leading to Viktor Gyokeres' tap-in from close range for the Gunners' third goal. The fourth followed three minutes later from a Gabriel's header deflected into the net by Gyokere.

Arsenal have not conceded after two UCL games at Emirates Stadium, and they have remained unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions. They look well-placed to extend their winning run, as they're the only side in UCL history to win seven successive games against Spanish opponents.

Overview

Atletico proved difficult for Arsenal to get past. The Spaniard became loose enough for the hosts to penetrate after a couple of changes were made. Atletico wanted to be more offensive to make up for the deficit from Gabriel's first half. That proved to be costly for the Spaniards.

Until this game, Gyokere had found scoring an uphill task. However, this game was different for the striker; coupled with Gabriel's assist, which led to his brace, was another interesting part. Gabriel could have gotten the brace as his header was goal-bound and arrived well for the striker's tap-in.
