Leandro Trossard's Goal Leads Arsenal To Maintain Top Spot After Defeating Fulham
Arsenal left it late before they found the needed goal to beat Fulham by 1-0 in a London derby at Craven Cottage, after which the Gunners maintained the EPL table leadership.
Fulham did not leave room for their counterparts to find goalscoring chances. Rather, they were offensive in the earlier stages, winning a couple of corners before Arsenal stemmed the tide. Though the goal came through an unusual suspect, Leandro Trossard, the Gunners had threatened their defense relentlessly.
The Gunners' effort eventually paid off as Trossard tapped home a flicker from Eberechi Eze's header following a Saka's corner. The winger was left unmarked for the aerial ball from Ese's header to arrive for his tap-in inside the six-yard box in the 59th minute.
Arsenal's attempts to extend the lead from a penalty did not appeal to the referee, who ruled against Bukayo Saka's request for a spot-kick after he was dropped on the edge of the box. The Gunners have remained unbeaten since losing to Liverpool in August.
Overview
Fulham did a great job at holding off their opponents, but the Gunners' efforts were consistent. Eventually, a set-piece would set the sides apart from Bukayo Saka. The winger had, from the start, stirred up the attack from the right wing. The midfield was also well-controlled, with Alex Iwobi and Declan Rice doing a great job at that.
Fulham occasionally found a counter, trying to craft something out of their advantages. They were met with strong resolve from Gabriel in the box. Viktor Gyokeres found himself in a tight situation, unable to break Fulham's resolve with the second goal. He came closest to getting a goal in injury time. Rather, Fulham's Bernd Leno was well-positioned to save the goal-bound low-cut shot.
