Rapper's Wife Calls It Quits
Tomeka Thiam, the wife of an American rapper, Akon, has filed for divorce from the artist over what she claimed to be an "irreconcilable difference" between her and her estranged husband.
The couple has been together since the artist broke through in his music career, and they were days away from celebrating their 29th anniversary when Thiam filed for divorce. Akon, whose real name is Alioune Badara Thiam, 52, broke through with his hit album, Trouble, in 2004, and also owned a record label called Konvict Music.
Thiam, in her legal document, is hoping the court will grant her custody of their 17-year-old daughter. She also asked the court to grant her spousal support from the arist. She also wants the "Lonely" singer restrained from demanding spousal support from her, according to People.
Akon was launched into the limelight by the hit track, Locked Up from his debut album in 2004. He has since embarked on many ambitious endeavors, including the project to build a real-life Wakanda City in Senegal. The project was called off after years of setbacks.
