Manchester City Outclass Huddersfield Comfortably In EFL Carabao Cup Showdown
Manchester City eased into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a dominant 2-0 win over League One side Huddersfield Town.
From the first whistle, Pep Guardiola’s men controlled every inch of the pitch, delivering a performance that looked more like a training exercise than a cup tie. Within five minutes, the visitors had settled into their rhythm, calmly circulating possession as Huddersfield dropped deep with all men behind the ball. By the 10th minute, City had already registered two shots on target, including a comfortable save from Lee Nicholls on Divine Mukasa’s low effort.
The breakthrough came in the 18th minute. Phil Foden, captaining the side, played a sharp ball with Mukasa before unleashing a powerful left-footed strike from outside the box into the bottom corner. It was a moment of pure quality, and it opened the floodgates for City's continued dominance.
City’s second goal eventually arrived in the 74th minute. After a sequence of quick, tight passes in the box, Savinho fired home with his left foot to double the lead, a goal that had felt inevitable.
However, Huddersfield also had its moments. Their first real attempt didn’t come until the 33rd minute, when Zépiqueno Redmond fired wide from the edge of the area. They had a close shave in the 88th minute, as substitute Cameron Ashia cut in from the left and curled a shot past Ortega, but it bounced off the post. That was the home side’s only real threat all evening.
Phil Foden was the standout, dictating the tempo and scoring a superb opener. Savinho added the insurance goal, and Mukasa, Bobb, and Reijnders all impressed as Guardiola rotated his squad.
