Lincoln Lost To Chelsea In Comeback Victory

Chelsea fought back to hold off an onslaught from Lincoln City, claiming a 2-1 comeback victory to progress to the EFL Carabao Cup fourth round.

The League One side is currently on a 10-match unbeaten streak and dreaming of a famous upset against their Premier League opponents, but it was shattered. For Chelsea, the match was a vital opportunity that restored confidence after consecutive defeats.

Lincoln manager Michael Skubala has a fully fit squad for the historic encounter, with superb form sitting third in League One after a 3-1 win against Luton Town over the weekend. Unfortunately, they were unable to continue their excellent run, despite their home scoring record, which has been particularly impressive.

Late into the first half, Trevor Chalobah's error in front of the box handed out a loft opportunity to Lincoln. Ivan Varfolomeev stole the loose ball from the defender and played in Rob Street, who struck the ball to beat Filip Jorgensen to the goal.

Chelsea found the spark to level up from Tyrique George's effort after the halftime break. Amidst a loosely defended pass from a Chelsea winger in front of Lincoln's box, the ball landed on George's path, and he struck an 18-yard shot into the net, restoring Chelsea to the game. Facundo Buonanette scored the winning goal, dribbling his way into Lincoln's box, did a one-two with George, and finished off, poking the ball past Zach Jeacock.

The victory restored Chelsea to winning ways. They lost 2-1 to Manchester United over the weekend. In addition, due to injuries, Chelsea played without players who could have made their game against Lincoln a little easier.
