Igor Thiago Leads Brentford To Beat Manchester United
Manchester United were dealt an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at Brentford as Igor Thiago scored a brace, setting them back in the Premier League.
United came under onslaught early into the match. Thiago was the enigma for United, capitalising on opportunities that caught his opponents off guard. Brentford maintained their resolve, even as United came out stronger to find the equalizer.
The Brazilian striker set the side in the lead with a brilliant strike and Bayindir had no chance. He latched onto Jordan Henderson's deep cross, and darted into the box before blasting home the ball, despite being challenged.
Brentford once again punished United's poor defending, following a scuffed clearance and weak punch from Bayindir that fell kindly to Thiago, who made no mistake with a low finish for his second goal of the match. United found a lifeline in the 27th minute, when Benjamin Sesko bundled in a messy goal following a deep cross Matheus Cunha.
After United wasted the opportunity to level from a penalty taking by Bruno Fernandez, a swift counter attack ensued with Vitaly Janelt rifling the ball past Bayindir in the 97th minute, sealing a deserved and emphatic victory for the Bees.
Perhaps the penalty could have save the game for United. Caoimhin Kelleher's performance was commendable. However, the loss extended their away winless run in the Premier League to eight consecutive games.
Overview
Brentford's striker, Thiago, delivered a sensational performance with two goals from the first half that set them ahead. Bruno Fernandez had a glaring chance from a penalty to undo the situation. Instead, he forced a save from Caoimhin Kelleher.
United tried to used the right wing to penetrate. Bryan Mbeumo was unable to make most of that by the finding Sesko in the centre. Bolstering the attack with Zirkzee did not pay off as they struggled to get a shot at the target. Meanwhile, Brentford's substitute, Jensen, who replaced Thiago wasted no chance to set the side, through following a fast break.
