Harry Kane Shines As Bayern Munich Neatly Thrash Chelsea In UCL Opening Game

 

Bayern Munich continued their flawless start to the 2025/26 season with a commanding 3-1 victory over Chelsea in a thrilling Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena.

Chelsea showed incredible form before that wane as Bayern capitalised on critical chances and an own goal to take the lead. Cole Palmer tried to fire up the team, but the attacking midfielder's effort was doled out as the German re-established control by extending the lead. 

Bayern took the lead in the 20th minute via an unfortunate own goal from Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah after a clever run and cross from Chelsea’s Carney Olise.

Harry Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage with a composed penalty at the 27th minute, awarded after a controversial challenge on him by Chelsea’s Moisés Caicedo. Chelsea responded swiftly as Palmer scored a stunning individual goal in the 28th minute. He darted across the pitch, did a one-two ball with Gusto, before striking the ball into the net. 

The second half saw a tactical shift as Bayern introduced Kim in central defense, shoring up their backline and enabling swift attacking transitions. Kane capitalized on a defensive error from Chelsea’s Gusto in the 63rd minute, calmly sliding home to restore Bayern’s two-goal cushion.

Chelsea, visibly tiring in the latter stages, struggled to maintain their early intensity. Despite some promising moments from youth debutants Estevao and Garnacho, they couldn’t break down Bayern’s disciplined defense. Additionally, what could have been Palmer's second goal was canceled after the VAR ruled that he was offside. 

Kane's goals marked his 20th and 21st in the UEFA Champions League for Bayern, as the Bundesliga side extended its winning streak against Chelsea to three consecutive games in the competition. 

Overview 

Bayern quickly established control, which was enhanced by Trevoh Chalobah's own goal. Nonetheless, Harry Kane was the star player for the Germans even as Chelsea made efforts to come back into the game. 

Palmer played a crucial role in the game, despite the loss. Joao Pedro was also impactful. The Blues gave away two goals, including the penalty awarded against Moises Caicedo. The tone of the game quickly changed in favour of the Germans afterwards.
