Fabio Carvalho’s Late Strike Holds Chelsea To Draw Against Brentford
Brentford and Chelsea shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw, following a stunning injury-time comeback goal from the Bees' Fabio Carvalho.
Chelsea, who trailed at the break, turned the tide with a spirited second-half display led by Cole Palmer. But just as they looked to have sealed all three points, Brentford struck late through Fabio Carvalho to salvage a well-earned draw.
The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute through Schade, who had been a threat all half. After a loose ball from Chelsea in midfield reached Jordan Henderson, he produced a sublime pass from deep to release the winger, Schade, who finished off the fast break.
The equaliser came on the hour mark. Reece James clipped a well-weighted cross onto the head of João Pedro, who knocked it down for Cole Palmer, who struck the ball into the net.
Chelsea finally found the breakthrough they craved in the 85th minute. A dazzling run from Garnacho opened up space, and although Brentford initially cleared Palmer’s effort, the ball fell to Moisés Caicedo. The Ecuadorian needed just one touch to compose himself before unleashing a thunderous strike into the top corner, a goal worthy of winning any match.
Deep into stoppage time, a long throw from Schade caused havoc in the Chelsea box. Amidst the chaos and poor defending, Fabio Carvalho found space at the back post and turned the ball into the net to snatch a dramatic equaliser.
Chelsea remained unbeaten in five Premier League games against Brentford. They have not lost a Premier League game since the season commenced, including winning the London derby against Fulham by 2-0.
Overview
From the opening minutes, it was a slow-burning game, but Brentford quickly showed signs of their intent. Kevin Schade looked lively from the outset, his early effort forcing a corner and laying down a marker. Brentford's game plan was clear: absorb pressure, then strike quickly and directly.
Chelsea, despite dominating possession early on, struggled to create clear chances. A disallowed header from Tosin Adarabioyo and a wasted opportunity for Pedro Neto underscored their lack of sharpness.
