Carlos Alcaraz Rout Luciano Darderi to Reach US Open Round Four
Carlos Alcaraz maintained an impressive streak at the US Open, entering the fourth round without dropping a set after defeating Luciano Darderi in the third round.
The Spaniard had a triumphant victory of three sets by 6-2, 6-4, 6-0. His Italian opponent was clearly outperformed. However, he had a medical timeout in the second set at 5-4, after losing a serve to his opponent, and allowing a rally.
"Starting at 11:30 a.m. is not a schedule that I'm used to playing, so my first goal is to start well," Alcaraz recalled. "I think I started really well, pushing him to the limit, playing long rallies, and after that kept it long."
Until Luciano, the Spaniard player, had not dropped a serve since the Championship began this week. He broke 7-in-18 advantages. Darderi had his moment of brilliance, but Alcaraz was dominant throughout the round.
Alcaraz won the US Open for the first time in his career in 2022, and to accomplish that again, he stands to face four-time champion Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner, the defending champion, at some points in the championship. However, the Wimbledon two-time titlist will face Arthur Rinderknech in the next round.
