Wimbledon: Novak Djokovic Digs Deep To Beat Alex de Minaur, Makes Quarter-finals

Novak Djokovic progressed to the Wimbledon quarter-final after defeating Alex de Minaur in the fourth round

Novak Djokovic rallied to come through a hard-fought fourth round and defeated Alex de Minaur in four sets by 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Minaur's early impressive start began to suffer a huge setback, leading to his defeat after the sixth seed rallied in the fourth set at 1-4 and claimed five consecutive games to win the set. The Serbian converted two crucial break-point advantages before claiming a match point on his serve.

"There was a lot of cat and mouse play, a lot of slices," said Djokovic. "He exposes all your weaknesses. I was very pleased to hang in tough at the right moments and win this game."

Both players were meeting for the second consecutive time, but Minuar walked over the quarterfinals match against Djokovic from their previous meeting last season. However, the Australian player put up a fairly good showdown against Djokovic, converting six break points in 16 opportunities and serving 29 winners.

Djokovic, a seven-time champion, has appeared in the final back-to-back between 2023 and 2024, failing to win on both occasions; he was eliminated by Carlos Alcaraz. He won his first title of the season and his 100th ATP Tour-level title in Geneva.
