Wimbledon: Carlos Alcaraz Eases Past Oliver Tarvet To Reach Third Round

Carlos Alcaraz is contending for his third Wimbledon title after his maiden trophy in 2023

Carlos Alcaraz continued his unbeaten run in Wimbledon, defeating Oliver Tarvet in three sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round to reach the third round of the tournament.

Tarvet was neatly beaten by the defending champion, though he showed resilience after the Spaniard eased through the opener. He served a total of 16 winners, committing 28 unforced errors as against Alcaraz, who served 38 winners with 29 unforced errors.

"I've said before that I try and treat every match as the same, try and play the ball, not the player or the situation," said Alcaraz in a post-match interview. "It's not every day that you get to play against maybe the best player in the world. It was really important for me going into the match to enjoy it."

The two-time champion is contending for his third Wimbledon title after winning the championships back-to-back over the last two editions. However, his opening round was tedious, battling through a thrilling five-setter to eliminate Fabio Fognini.

Alcaraz has reached the final of every tournament he has participated in since the Barcelona Open, maintaining an unbeaten run to hit a milestone of 30-3 match wins on grass-court, the quickest by any player in tennis history. He won his first grass-court trophy of the season at the HSBC (Queen's Club) Championships, where he defeated Jiri Lehecka.
