Wimbledon: Cameron Norrie Outlasts Nicolas Jarry In Drilling Five-Setter, Sets To Meet Carlos Alcaraz In Last Eight

Cameron Norrie reaches the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the second time since 2022

Cameron Norrie, the last British player standing, battled through a hard-fought five-setter to reach the quarter-final after defeating Nicolas Jarry in a thrilling comeback rally by 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-7(7), 6-7(5), 6-3.

Norrie was impressive from the first game, saving a break-point and taking an early lead, winning a break-point at 4-3 to claim the set. The Briton held off a rally from the opponent in a tie-break in the second set, winning two set-points to lead by two sets to love.

"It's my coach's birthday and I forgot to get him a present, so I got him the win," said Norrie, who reached his second quarter-final on Court One since his first in 2022. He defeated David Goffin in the round and was later eliminated by Novak Djokovic in the semi-final.

Jarry dug deeper in the third and fourth sets to level two sets apiece with Norrie, who saved a break-point in the fifth to lead by 3-0 before claiming the match-point with a forehand shot.

In a separate match, the second seed, Carlos Alcaraz, had a game of his career against Andrey Rublev, who dealt him an early scare before succumbing to defeat in an epic four-set comeback rally by 6-7(5). 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Rubley seemed like he was going to go the distance, but he began to wane after he double-faulted at 4-3 40/30 before Alcaraz claimed the set. He was not better off in the remaining two sets, and the Spaniard breezed through to claim the match point for his 18th win on Centre-Court.

Alcaraz will now face Norrie in the quarter-final as he bids to defend the title for the third time in a row. He won his first on his debut in 2023 and defended the trophy back-to-back last season - he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final on both occasions.
