Wimbledon: Cameron Norrie Beats Mattia Bellucci To Reach Round of 16
Cameron Norrie has reached the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second in his career since 2022, after battling through a thrilling three-setter to defeat Mattia Bellucci in the third round.
The Briton is the only Brit remaining in the Men's Singles after Dan Evans was eliminated by Novak Djokovic and Jack Draper by Marin Cilic in the second round on Thursday. However, Norrie shrugged off an early scare from Bellucci to win in three sets by 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-3.
Bellucci saved a break at 6-5 and forced a tie-break, but Norrie claimed two set-points to win the opener. The Italian player maintained his resilience until Norrie claimed his first break-point at 3-3 of the second set before winning the set to lead by two sets to love.
"He was little bit up and down with the tennis," said Norrie in a post-match interview. "I just tried to stay as solid as I could and ride the waves and weather the story. When I needed to."
Norrie led the third impressively from the start, breaking to lead by 4-1, but became fatigued as Bellucci rallied to win a break at 5-2. The Brit regained his aggression and broke the Italian's serve to win the match point.
Reaching the fourth round is the farthest Norrie has been on the grass court this season. He had an early exit at the Queen's Club and Eastbourne Open, getting eliminated in his first matches. However, in the past 20 years, he is now the fourth unseeded player to reach the Men's Singles fourth round at Wimbledon and also at Roland Garros in a single season - a feat previously achieved by Novak Djokovic (2006), Kevin Anderson (2017), Karen Khachanov (2018), and Norrie (2025).
