Red Bull Dismisses Team Boss, Christian Horner As Laurent Mekies Takes Over
Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, has been sacked after serving the F1 Racing Team for 20 years, following a statement confirming the exit of the principal manager.
Horner led the team to winning four consecutive F1 World Drivers' Championships with Max Verstappen and also won three straight F1 World Constructors' titles; overall, he won eight drivers and six constructors titles. He is the team's longest-serving principal, but his reign was abruptly ended following an accusation leveled against him regarding sexual misconduct with a female member.
"With his tireless commitment, expertise, and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1," the statement reads.
Upon his exit, Laurent Mekies has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer to replace the 51-year-old. However, Laurent has a difficult task ahead of him as the team currently trails McLarren, casting a doubt over the team's defense of the F1 Drivers Championship.
The past four seasons have been impressive for the team, with Verstappen rising not only to contend vigorously but upset a seven-time champion, Lewis Hamilton. The team's cars were incredible, such that to contend with Verstappen on DRS was almost impossible. The brilliance of Horner was unmatched until last season with the rise of McLaren.
