Fantastic Four: The First Steps Takes Top Box Office Position On Opening Weekend

This month continues to witness multiple blockbusters making box office debuts, and most have crossed the half-a-billion-dollar milestone. The likes of F1: The Movie, Superman, and Jurassic: The World Rebirth - all debuted atop the chart - are already successes, and that could be said to be evidence of cinema-goers' growing confidence. Last weekend, Marvel's newly released film, The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, did not fall short either.

First Steps overtook James Gunn's Superman's dominance to make its debut atop the box office with a domestic gross of $118 million. It was the biggest debut for a Marvel film this year as First Steps hauled in $218 million globally. It not only overtook Superman, but it also almost matched its opening day worldwide gross; Superman grossed $217 million on opening weekend, but Warner Bros later revised to $220 million.

Superman dropped to second place, making a 57% drop in ticket sales in its third weekend, grossing $24.8 million domestically. However, it is the eighth-highest-grosser this year, maintaining an impressive worldwide outlook with $503 million. Nevertheless, that can not be compared to its box office predecessor, Jurassic: The World Rebirth, which has hauled in over $713 million globally.

The World Rebirth made its debut at number one on the chart, and even after losing the spot domestically, it is the fourth-highest film grosser of the year. With a budget of $180 million, Jurassic has performed way off the mark. And for Superman, it is the best-performing superhero film grosser this year.

In fourth is F1: The Movie, with a 37.2% drop in sales, grossing $6.2 million in its fifth weekend. However, it has performed incredibly well domestically, grossing $165.5 million, and it has made over $510 million globally. It has maintained its top five presence since its release in June.
