Ferrari Duo Struggles As Charles Leclerc Crashes Out of Canadian Grand Prix FP1
Charles Leclerc ended his part of the practice session abruptly after crashing into the barrier and severely damaging his SF-25 in the Canadian Grand Prix FP1.
The Ferrari driver was coming out of Turn 3 when he skidded off the track and smashed his car into the barrier. Leclerc locked his wheels coming off Turn 3, leading to the crash that damaged his car's chassis.
"Sorry, I'm in the wall," Leclerc pleaded with the team in a radio conversation. "Yeah, my bad. I should have gone straight. I thought I'll just make it, but I clipped the wall."
Lecletc was leading the practice before he crashed his car, which left his front left wheel severely damaged. As confirmed by the team boss, Fred Vasseur, he missed out on the second practice session due to the incident, having finished the practice in 10th place.
"We need to do some checks, but I think it's over for today for Charles," said Vasseur after evaluating the extent of the damage done to the chassis.
His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, also had his moment but without crashing his car. The seven-time champion in Montreal spun his car while coming out of Turn 10. He won his last race in Montreal in 2019, and since then, Red Bull's Max Verstappen has dominated the circuit, and he will be defending his victory from last year on Sunday.
