F1: The Movie Races Atop Weekend Box Office

Brad Pitt's new film, F1: The Movie, raced to the top of the weekend box office on its opening weekend, taking in $55.6 million from the North American market.

The film premiere at Radio City Music Hall in New York was a star-studded event, featuring the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez, and other F1 stars. However, it paid off with the film having a worldwide gross of $144 million. Though that is below its budget of $200m - $300m, it is commendable for an opening weekend.

Outside of the United States, Warner Bro's F1 topped the UK-Ireland market, grossing £4.9m ($6.72m) from the territory. If the preview is added to the cume, it brings the total to £7.1m ($9.75m). On online streaming platforms, Imax, F1 also recorded impressive success,  generating $28 million, which is a 19% share of the entire worldwide gross.

How to Train Your Dragon dropped to second after dominating the market for two weekends. It took a 47% dip in gross from the previous weekend to make $19.4 million. However, it is the franchise's second-highest grosser, earning $380.3 million globally. Compared to a budget of $165 million, the film has performed impressively within three weekends.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is another film with an interesting performance, which has finally passed the half-a-billion benchmark. Final Reckoning's budget was reviewed to $400 million, and to be successful, it needed to cross that milestone. Domestically, it has dropped to fifth, earning $4.1 million. Globally, it is showing a better performance.  With the international market contributing $376 million, its earnings have increased to $562 million worldwide.
