Dan Evans Knocked Out As Jenson Brooksby Progresses To Eastbourne Open Semi-finals
Dan Evans has been eliminated from the Lexus Eastbourne Open by Jenson Brooksby in the quarter-final, losing out in straight sets by 6-2, 6-3.
The Briton, 35, was dominated throughout both sets and could barely have a break-point advantage, while the American converted four out of six advantages. He was making his ATP Tour-level quarter-final appearance since winning the Citi DC Open title in 2023.
"It's been a bit of a downer what happened today, there's no doubt about that," Evans lamented. "It's been great - I've put my name back out there a bit. I've got a great event coming up. I say it all the time, but if you lose here, you're straight out and you get to play Wimbledon."
In a separate match, another British player, Billy Harris, was knocked out in the quarterfinal by a French opponent. Ugo Humbert in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-1. Harris was making his ATP 250 tour-level quarter-final appearance after his first-round exit from Queen's Club and at Roland Garros, where he lost to Dan Evans.
The American, Brooksby, will face Humbert in the next semi-final. It will be both players' second career meeting after their first at the Swiss Indoors Basel in 2022.
